Fundraising

One of the hardest things for a non-profit organization, is to raise money. VA PAWS is constantly looking for opportunities to increase the funds available to help animals. We welcome all fundraising suggestions and offers of support.

These are some of our current and past fundraisers:

Lurecoursing
With the generosity of Laura and Mark Cormier, VA PAWS held a lure-coursing event in Christiansburg. The Cormiers donated their time and equipment for this fun event. For a nominal fee, dogs would chase a lure ( a plastic bag tied to a string ) around a course of pulleys and string. The dogs and owners had a great time.

Lure coursing is an exciting activity that is traditionally done by sight hounds, but any dog that likes to chase moving objects will love it. Dogs run one at a time and chase a lure being pulled around a secure field by a string and pulley system. Seeing your dog charging around the field is a sight you won't forget!

Cookbook
A fundraiser sponsored by Tetra, Reed Lumber, the New River Community College 1999 Business class, and OfficeMax.

The cookbook features: 172 pages and 233 recipes - most submitted in memory of pets 6 color photo mosiac pages with 71 pet photos (including covers) clip art of recipes and animals on most pages black spiral binding with clear plastic covers card stock covers and divider pages 3 pages of cooking tips.

VA PAWS Tree of Love
This year's Tree of Love fundraiser at the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg ended on December 22nd, 2000. VA PAWS would like to thank Cassandra Dove of New River Valley Mall Management for allowing us to setup again this year. Christy Smith did an excellent job of creating and making the ornaments and display. Her efforts to give the event a new look, really paid off. Becky Murray had the unfortunate job of Volunteer Coordinator, and even though volunteers were scarce and some time slots went unmanned, we did raise $400.00 and were able to expose VA PAWS to an even larger audience.

VA PAWS would like to thank all of the volunteers who manned the Tree; Verl Emerick, Becky Murray, Trish, Kathy Davieds, Randy Epperly, Nancy Brauer, Jessica LaRue, Lila and Tom Wills, Karen and Todd Wolfson, Joan Hamilton, and Sherry Slaughter.

TOWN & COUNTRY RABIES CLINIC and YARD SALE
On August 12th, 2001, Town & Country Veterinary Clinic generously raised more than $280.00 from Rabies shots given and a portion of the staff's yard sale proceeds. To everyone at the clinic, VA PAWS thanks you so much!
